Geoff Gaunt grew up in Victoria and graduated from Claremont Senior Secondary. He did part of his undergraduate degree at UVIC, finished his B.Sc. in medical microbiology at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and completed his D.V.M. at Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in 1979. After one year in Listowel, Ontario, Geoff returned to Victoria and practised with his father, Dr. David Gaunt until 1985 when Dr. Gaunt Sr. retired. Geoff is a general veterinary practitioner with strong interests in equine practice and small animal medicine and surgery. He also has had many years of farm animal veterinary practice. Geoff is married to Rosemary and they have three grown children and two young grandchildren.

Canadian Food for the Hungry is a non-governmental organization involved in sustainable development projects around the world. Geoff Gaunt has been to a rural area in western Ethiopia twice to examine one of these projects.
